Overview

North of Real is a speculative brand and desktop/mobile landing for a Los Angeles hybrid studio - live-action craft fused with AI pipelines like Set SHIFT. Built as a bold, film-poster production-house site rather than another dark AI SaaS landing.

Their own copy and work titles lead: THE LOST YEARS, Nike Giannis, Super Bowl LX, Jeep UNBOUND, plus the Set SHIFT product story.

Problem

Hybrid production houses need a site that reads as prestige filmmaking first - confident type, cinematic frames, work that sells itself - while still explaining an AI-assisted pipeline without looking like every other generative studio.

Design system

Warm bone paper (#ECE8E1) against ink (#0F0F0E) bands, with a single teal signal (#1FA89A). Montserrat ExtraBold caps carry the poster-scale headlines, Instrument Serif Italic softens the “of” in the wordmark and the contact line, and IBM Plex Mono handles credits, captions, and meta like a film slate.

  • Desktop 1440 + Mobile 390 in one Figma file
  • IA: Hero reel frame → Credits strip → Selected work → Set SHIFT → Ethos → Contact
  • Hero frame cropped to 2.39:1 with a “Now showing” caption rail
  • Set SHIFT runs full-bleed, with its pipeline columns set on ink

Product design

Information architecture mirrors a next-gen production house: a cinematic hero frame, a credits strip, then selected work as an asymmetric grid. Set SHIFT is the capability block, with live-action, pipeline, and delivery columns. The page moves through the ethos and closes on a real inquiry form and hello@northofreal.ai.

Outcome

A coherent alternate studio-site system - proof I can art-direct the same category as Undeniable in a completely different visual register when the brief calls for warm editorial paper, not signal-color dark.
